What Makes YOU special?

ASM 201 Journal Entry #4

Many generations ago did we all really live in Africa? If we did how did we became spread apart across the world? The world is very big and many things could have happened in these pass generations, including we all use to share something in common in Africa. If we did share something in common then why did we decide to separate into different groups. Therefore causing use to live in different places across the world.

What are the scientific and technological advances necessary to accomplish this Genographic project? There defiantly has to be many advanced tools needed to find the information we need to tell us if this is true. We would also need a lot of people who are willing to do experiments in order to find out this information. Since most people would be interested in finding out where everybody came from they wouldn't have a problem with that.

Could Researchers have accomplished this project 100 years ago? 50? 25? The answer would most likely be no, because 100 years ago we would never have had the technology to find the information we would need to. 5o years ago would still be a huge gap from finding the correct information. 25 years ago could have been possible but i would have been very difficult to accomplish it. Now we are possibly able to accomplish what we need in order to find this information.

Why is the Timing of the Genographic Project important? It is important because if we were to wait too long the stuff we would have needed would have disappeared and we would never we able to find that piece of information again. It is also important because if we didn't wait long enough we would never be able to create the tools needed in order to help us find the information.

In conclusion we would have to require a lot of work in order for us to find out the truth if we all used to live in a part of Africa and for what reason did we all split apart for.

Reading in Cyberspace ?!?

ASM201 Journal Entry Question #5

Reading in Cyberspace, will it be affective? Will reading in cyberspace increase the amount of reading an average person does? A lot of people can take advantage of this since they can read or take a preview of the book they might buy. Its like a library on your computer but you don't have to look really hard to find the book. All you have to do is type the name of the book and click the one you like.

Do you think librarians will be threatened by the new development? Well the answer will probably be no. The book search will most likely not have all the book that can be found at the library. Since it only runs on sources that it has recent relations with. Old books found in the library might not be available online. Therefore people will still have to visit the library for information.

Will this library-based digitization affect Google’s relationships with publishers? This will not affect them a lot because publishers, librarians, authors and the general public have all expressed interest in the Google Books Library Project. Therefore not changing the publishers relationship with Google.

In conclusion Google Books can be a very good resource for people to use without leaving their homes to go to the library.

When War meets Video Games

Journal Entry #3 ASM201

Well for the reason why war games are so popular nowadays is because of the excessive amount of war and gun violence in the news. Though many people prefer to play war games because it is fun. If you were to say you liked building games like Sims it is like enjoying playing war games. It might not be about the war in these games; it might just be that the person enjoys a run around FPS game. Not really saying it's played because of the killing or the guns in the game, it's really because of the game play.

Which brings me into quote in the article "If it's not realistic, it's not worth playing," that could be true in many ways. People want realistic graphics and style of play or it just doesn't seem amusing to them. The thing is, people want to play something that would seen very real like they are actually there. Many games already have that type of thing, characters look more realistic, weapons look real and even the environment is very nature like. Since technology is growing and so are the games, really no one wants to play a game that looks like something from the Super Nintendo days. The fact that it is realistic can be a good thing since it can show the horrors of war. If people think war is just a game this can be a simulation of how terrible war really is. Therefore limiting the amount of violence, to say it is just to show horror or if it is fun isn't really the thing it could be about either one or it could be about both. A person could be afraid of war but still play war games. Or a person might just play this game as an article of amusement.

For the question of what I personally think of war games. I think it is pretty fun to play these types of games. . I don't really care if this is a way of showing the horrors of war since I have never even thought of war as fun besides in games. I really like playing war games but I wouldn't go around shooting people in real life. It just gives me an exciting perspective of war without having to be in a real war. It really gives me a feel of how the soldiers really acted in a time of war. It would probably be the graphical parts of the game that catch my eye. Since I do think a good looking game with good graphics is often fun.

In conclusion war games are not necessarily bad. It can be a good lesson about horrors of war, or it can be just a past time.

In conclusion it doesn't really matter what you play war games for. It can be decided if it is used to show the horrors of war or just show that people play it for fun and to pass the time.

An iPod Classroom?

Journal Entry #2 ASM201 Section 1

An IPod Classroom? It could be very useful to very hands on people. If I were to use this method I would choose to do so because it would mean I have a easier way to have the same lecture multiple times helping me with my work. Many people would learn well with an IPod and many people wont. Many people would chose to use the IPod for music and work while other would use it for their own entertainment. Unlike a lot of people they would use it to review work and other things. This could provide a quick and easy access to lectures and other seminars. Plus for the people that require frequent breaks they can just pause what they are working on and switch to listen to music.

It would be very useful for kinesthetic learners. In a school like Mary Ward it would be very advantageous to many of the students. In a self-directed learning school many students tend to miss there seminars and fall behind. With the new IPod class many people with their IPods can listen to the seminars. Making it easier for them because they wont be worried they missed the seminar and cannot complete the unit without it. For people that are very kinesthetic they would use this as an advantage to review on what they learnt. Student would be able to use this to study for test and exams or just use it for a extra thing.

Though there are so many good things that come with the IPod class there are also many bad things. Students would use it as an excuse to not go to seminars so they can do other things. They would use this to tell there parents they are studying with the IPod and then play music instead of working. Students might slack off seeing they think they wont fall behind because they have the seminar on their IPods. Even if they are in the seminars themselves and the teacher thinks they are recording the seminar they could be watching a movie instead of listening.

In conclusion having an IPod classroom would be a very good idea. For the advantages and disadvantages is depending on the person who uses it. Them choosing to use it well or not.

With the GOOD, comes the BAD

Journal Entry #1 ASM201(I think hehe)

Communication technology is everywhere it can be either good or it can be bad.. Well depending on how you use it. There are many good ways into using Communication Technology like for instance. Cell phones can be used as a type of communication to talk to people or to Instant message. It can be used to make photos if it is equipped with a camera or you can listen to music with an mp3 phone. Internet can be of really good use when needed it can be your own library at home or even you media center. You can do lots of things with the internet you can make stuff like this blog or even read book or any other items. Internet can be really useful even for chatting with friends. Other things are portable video games.... really there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Well there are lots of different portable video games and handhelds threes things like: Nintendo DS, Gameboys, PSP and much more. Things like that can help a person relax and relieve stress.

Now about the bad stuff.... I really hoped I wouldn't have to come to this one but since I have no choice. Cell phones can be bad people start getting really attached to their cell phones they talk for enormous amounts of time and text message a lot. Causing them to delay on school work and other things. Internet can be bad if misused. People can use the internet for lots of stuff but some people use it to play games. Not sayings it's bad but it makes people addicted to gaming online. People can use it for other really bad things. Handheld games are bad for the reason people can play it during classes or work making them lose concentration. Sometimes people play it for really long periods of time and forget to do work or other things.

This well sums up the good and the bad of Communication Technology
