When War meets Video Games

Journal Entry #3 ASM201

Well for the reason why war games are so popular nowadays is because of the excessive amount of war and gun violence in the news. Though many people prefer to play war games because it is fun. If you were to say you liked building games like Sims it is like enjoying playing war games. It might not be about the war in these games; it might just be that the person enjoys a run around FPS game. Not really saying it's played because of the killing or the guns in the game, it's really because of the game play.

Which brings me into quote in the article "If it's not realistic, it's not worth playing," that could be true in many ways. People want realistic graphics and style of play or it just doesn't seem amusing to them. The thing is, people want to play something that would seen very real like they are actually there. Many games already have that type of thing, characters look more realistic, weapons look real and even the environment is very nature like. Since technology is growing and so are the games, really no one wants to play a game that looks like something from the Super Nintendo days. The fact that it is realistic can be a good thing since it can show the horrors of war. If people think war is just a game this can be a simulation of how terrible war really is. Therefore limiting the amount of violence, to say it is just to show horror or if it is fun isn't really the thing it could be about either one or it could be about both. A person could be afraid of war but still play war games. Or a person might just play this game as an article of amusement.

For the question of what I personally think of war games. I think it is pretty fun to play these types of games. . I don't really care if this is a way of showing the horrors of war since I have never even thought of war as fun besides in games. I really like playing war games but I wouldn't go around shooting people in real life. It just gives me an exciting perspective of war without having to be in a real war. It really gives me a feel of how the soldiers really acted in a time of war. It would probably be the graphical parts of the game that catch my eye. Since I do think a good looking game with good graphics is often fun.

In conclusion war games are not necessarily bad. It can be a good lesson about horrors of war, or it can be just a past time.

In conclusion it doesn't really matter what you play war games for. It can be decided if it is used to show the horrors of war or just show that people play it for fun and to pass the time.
